NYC Pillow Fight 2010

What: Massive Pillow Fight
Where: Union Square, New York City, New York
When: Saturday, April 3rd @ 3:00 pm

In celebration of World Pillow Fight Day, the fifth annual New York City Pillow Fight will be held this coming Saturday at Union Square in NYC. It's basically a massive pillow fight in the streets! A few of the rules include: feather free pillows only, do not swing at people with cameras, and remove glasses before event.  Cleanup will be conducted by Pillows For Puppies, a non-profit organization that will be donating left over pillow synthetic to a couple Manhattan no-kill animal shelters to use as bedding for puppies and kittens. Sounds like a wonderful event!

Let's Talk About College!

This is going to be a HUGE post about colleges, courses, and random college stuff. Pretty interesting stuff though!

Strange College Courses (full article here.):
  • Learning from Youtube: YouTube has revolutionized the way we live so much that it's become a college course at Pitzer College. Students watch YouTube videos to study their impact on culture. They also upload their own videos to a class YouTube channel.
  • Philosophyand Star Trek: "Star Trek" fans at Georgetown University have enjoyed a class dedicated to the popular show. The class offers an introduction into certain topics in metaphysics, but its main focus is on the philosophical questions that continuously arise in the show.
  • New York Reality School: As more and more reality shows surface on our television screens, it becomes obvious that a simple audition isn't enough to get yourself famous. That's why the New York Reality School is offering training and seminars to those who dream of a career in reality television.
Think your tuition sucks? Check out this slideshow of the most expensive colleges in America. $56,000 a year? No thanks!

In contrast  to the previous topic, here are the best inexpensive colleges to attend.

Salary wise,  the number one major to get into right now is Aerospace Engineering. A few of the the others include Computer Science, Physics, and Electrical Engineering. For the rest of the best, click here.

The Rules of Cell Phone Etiquette

The Huffington Post has made up a simple, 15 rules for cell phone etiquette picture book that discusses the do and don'ts of using your cell phone.  Among the rules on the list:
  • Lower your voice while talking in public.
  • Avoid taking calls when you are engaged in a face to face conversation with someone else. If you have to take the call, ask permission of the person you are with.
  • Avoid looking things up or texting during a conversation.

Photography by Legally Blind People

As photographers, our eyes are our most prized possession. The very nature of photography is visual; even the camera lens itself is an invention that attempts to duplicate the operation of the human eye.

So what if the ocular ability you’ve always relied on no longer existed?

Some interesting quotes from the article.

"...combine their walking cane and mono pod into one."
"I also take multiple shots. I am lucky if one in 10 shots is a reasonable image and one in a hundred a good one."

Is Giving Birth Getting to be Too Much to Handle?

Accodring to ABC News, 1 in every 3 babies that come into the world in the United States are getting here by C-Section. The C-section rate rose by 53 percent between 1996 and 2007. The trend is alarming to some medical professionals, who say C-sections are more likely to cause problems that put the mother in the hospital – and the baby in intensive care.

DSLRs go toe to toe with the best 35mm cameras of all time in a three part web series! I know I'm probably the only one excited about this, but whatever.

What Do We Have Here?

I found this to be quite the interesting sight, the remnants of a sawed apart tree laying on a sidewalk in NYC. What a juxtaposition!

Collectible Canon Lenses

Saw this while browsing around SkatePerception. Old Canon lenses turned into thermoses and mugs! Some are plastic replicas, but none-the-less, very cool!

Why Can't We Be Friends?

What's up with everyone suing everyone else over completely ridiculous things? I saw this article when looking through google news today.

Some of the more interesting (or ridiculous) lawsuits being filed against celebrities:
  • Lady Gaga is being sued for $35 million by songwriter and former boyfriend Rob Fusari, who claims he was instrumental in Gaga's development as an artist. Sure, he could have been inspiration, but who's to say that he deserves money because of that?
  • Simon Monjack, the husband of late actress Brittany Murphy, is suing Warner Brothers over Murphy's death in December 2009. Monjack told The Daily Beast in an interview that he believes Murphy died of a heart attack from the stress caused by Warner Brothers. Murphy was fired from the sequel of "Happy Feet." Two weeks later she died. A little money hungry, eh?
  • Abercrombie & Fitch Co. has sued singer Beyonce Knowles, saying her plan for a fragrance named after her alter ego, Sasha Fierce, violates the teen clothing retailer's trademark. The chain, which has sold a men's fragrance called Fierce since 2002, wants a court to order Knowles to abandon the plan. Just ANOTHER reason why I hate Abercrombie...
  • A woman named Paula Kohl is suing former "American Idol" host Paula Abdul, claiming she fell while walking down Abdul's driveway during a taping of Abdul's reality show "Hey Paula." In a lawsuit filed March 3, 2009 in Los Angeles Superior Court, Kohl claims she fell because the property "was in a dangerous and defective condition." She is seeking damages in excess of $25,000. That's called being clumsy, not walking on dangerous conditions. It's a millionaire's house, it  can't be that bad, right?
